A Coin For Me! By: Mitra

Once upon a time there was a Leprechaun named Patrick. Patrick loved gold and chocolate and love loved chocolate coins but he was too naughty and silly to earn them.

One day Patrick's mother called him. "Patrick, I need to tell you something" Patrick rushed to the kitchen and his mother said "Patrick, tomorrow is Saint Patrick's Day and tonight it will be your first time going out at night to collect the chocolate coins". Patrick’s heart leaped as his mother mentioned chocolate coins. "But you can not eat the coins because we need them to eat. We have a lot in storage but we need more for the following year. I also will be collecting as will your Father but you have to also. And also the chocolate coin you are taking with you is magic."

"Yes Mother" Patrick said, already thinking about chocolate coins. That night when the alarm that all children had gone to sleep went off, Patrick’s mother and father said that it was time to go. Patrick took one of the three short ladders and one chocolate coin and started walking. Soon Patrick felt that the ladder was too heavy and he left it lying outside his small house in a bed of moss. Patrick soon reached a small cottage where a young girl slept, dreaming of Leprechaun’s.

Patrick squeezed himself into a mouse hole and crept to the kids bedroom, and was surprised to find a beautiful green Leprechaun house that, by the looks of it, had a lot of chocolate coins in it. Patrick walked in and climbed up the stairs and saw a hole in the ground. "Strange" he muttered to himself, but then he saw what was in the hole. It had one area that was chocolate coins only. There was an area that had soft moss beds, there was a dance floor where if you pulled a string, shamrocks rained down! There was a kitchen, a bathroom and a closet full of beautiful shamrock dresses and robes!

Patrick jumped into the hole and landed on one of the soft moss beds. But then he realized that he was trapped! He rushed to the wall and tried climbing it but it was as smooth as glass! Now would be a good time to have that ladder Patrick thought ruefully. Just then he remembered the chocolate coin he had taken with him. His mother had said that it was magic hadn’t she? He decided to find out.

"Bring me my ladder" he said aloud to the chocolate coin. The coin disappeared and a moment later it appeared again, with it the ladder. "Aha!" he shouted with delight, but he was a little too loud. He heard big footsteps coming to the house! A giant eye peeked in from the hole in the wall that was big enough to climb through. It was dark so the girl couldn't see him. When she went back to sleep Patrick put his ladder up to the wall and climbed up it, up to the window and out of sight. On the way back home
